2nded. Both great wheel choices. Perhaps RAC have a 'sorry, not in those shoes' door policy?

Love the car, Barrie - quite similar to mine really :D I'm thinking of a dark wheel for my next wheels, down the track.
Was actually thinking Advan RS - wise minds think alike. Looks excellent.

Thanks Phil.
The Advan wheels + R spec tyres did not come cheap, especially as the agreement with my wife was $1 on car = $1 on pearl necklace!
With the exception of Matt (zombie), the Perth group have so far been relatively conservative on NC mods - racing springs, stiffer swaybars, R specs and a few of us with the earlier model NC will be fitting a Cusco LSD soon. What's happening with NC's in the east?

The undisputed champion of modified NC's in Eastern Oz would have to be Danny:
Danny's RENESIS NC

Then you've got my car and Charlie Brown:
Matt's NC

Phil's NC

That's about the extent of it AFAIK!

There are other modified NC's about, but these two are probably the most modified on here currently. Due to the relative cost and lack of support for the NC currently, I think most modifiers concentrate the time and money on NA's and NB's. But that will steadily shift to more interest in the NC, particularly with the MZR internals and forced induction options now available in the US.

agreed, NC has a lot of potential, just waiting for the right tuners to invest more time :| they do have very tasty looking body kits/bits though

There are already plenty of tuners for the NC.

It's jsut a matter of people buying their products.

Nopro, Rs Factory stage, tuckin99, jet's integral, HKS kansai. etc

True, but availability and selection are nothing like the NA and NB. Particularly when it comes to the engine bay.
Sure, it's a modern car, with a higher sticker price, so not as many have filtered down. But Japan are early adopters, and the NC was released in 2006. Just flick through any Road&Ster or Hyper Rev. I also try to keep tabs on the club scene in Japan also. What you see is a noticeably slow uptake of the NC by owners and tuners.

ECU mods for the MZR engine in Japan, for example, are very limited, and what you can achieve is fairly limited. The only forced induction NC from a Japanese tuner is the one belonging to Power Enterprise as far as I've been able to discern. NoPro's engine swaps seem more popular. Looking at MX5 Clubs in Japan, forced induction setups for NA's and NB's are plentiful, but NC's still predominantly have their engines largely untouched. Brightening are an NC specific tuner and they are using the Cosworth supercharger.

I attribute this to the difficult engine layout, plus all the blown engines and subsequent backlash with Cosworth Supercharged NC1's. It seems BEGI and NoPro are the only ones who seem to be having some success. But this will slowly change. Certainly with the release of the Cosworth upgraded internals for the MZR engine, reliability for those going forced induction seems more likely, albeit with a much greater price now. Unlike a B-Series which are proven on stock internals with mild forced induction.

If you follow the sponsors link to Rev9 and take a look at their blog .
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

But, does more roll does imply less mechanical grip?

Stock NC's produce more cornering gee's then any previous MX5. For the same reason, people who race NC's (eg. Zane) will tell you that the greater wheel travel afforded by the NC's design, like an open wheeler, means that on some circuits the racing line for an NC is more like an open wheeler and quite different to an NA/NB. More suspension arc means the suspension can carry more load/unload, rather than running out of travel which can result in compression pushing the tires beyond their grip limit. Zane described this exact scenario too me with regards to driving NA/NB vs NC around Oran Park (RIP!).

I used to think more roll = less grip, but the more cars I drive, the more I think chassis design principals are not that simple!

Before this goes even further OT, I think you've probably highlighted why most road users would choose sways - because they inspire more confidence in most drivers. It's not really a question of mechanical grip.
FWIW, Chris only uses a slightly thicker rear sway in his NC's to neutralise the cars handling. But as you've said, suspension choice, tire choice etc all play a role as well.
For trackdays and khanas on billiard table smooth surfaces (race cars), a stiffer roll is obviously an advantage combined with more rubber etc. But for a road car, not always the case.

Haha, it's true. Aftermarket wheels demand it to an extent. I look at my car sometimes and think I could go lower. But the inconveniance would be too great. Maybe down the track though. Before that I would like to explore slightly wider wheels/offset.
