Thread revival!! (I'm hunting for info, and have found a vast treasure trove of randomly useful threads)

Type:Kuhmo Ecsta SPT
Size: 195/50/15
Price: $100 / corner
Dry Grip: 4/5
Wet Grip: 3.5/5 because I haven't pushed them hard enough in the wet to see if it'll make the grade of 4.
Tyre Life: Would not have a clue.
Road Noise: Stereo's up too loud to hear any road noise :P

Kula: where'd you get yours for $90 a corner?

These were on the other car, just posting this here in case anyone would consider them.

Type: Michelin Energy
Size: 195/50/15
Price: on the car new
Dry Grip: None (also Turn-in: None)
Wet Grip: Even less
Tyre Life: Infinite. No one could spossibly suffer these tyres long enough to wear them out.
Road Noise: Not sure, you don't notice it because the harsh ride is hurting you so much already.
Special mention for puncture resistance: nil

Grip and ride would be better if you took the tyres off and just ran on the rims. Ditched them after 20% worn because of repeated punctures. Partner has been saying thank you for buying me new tyres every day since.

These replaced C-Drives on 14\" rims

Type: Goodyear Eagle F1 (GS-D2)
Size: 205/50/15
Price: ebay, came free with the wheels
Dry Grip: Similar to C-Drives, but noticeably quicker turn-in
Wet Grip: Never rains here
Tyre Life: Dunno.
Road Noise: Tread block noise and some comes through as vibration into the car (SuperPro poly bushes).

Took over 1,000km to scrub them in. Diabolical initially. They're generally stiffer and harsher than the C-Drives but they're also much more responsive. Tend to let go front or back without much warning but other forums suggest higher pressures cure this.

New set of T1Rs fitted today.
Last set gave me 35000km of often 'spirited driving' :D
205/45x16 replacing 215/40x16 (not available and much more exe).
$160ea at Blairs Narellan.
I have no issues with alleged side wall squirm - handles brilliantly wet and dry.

Beware though, I had several quotes of $220 and $240 for the same tyres elsewhere. It pays to ring around!

Type - Yokohama Advan A048 (medium compound)
Size - 195/50/15
Price - $750 all 4 (80-90% tread)
Dry grip - Bloody excellent! Well compared to street tyres
Wet grip - Don't want to know :P
Tyre life - If it can last 2-3 more track days I'm happy :)
Road noise - Very noisy, but don't care. Only have to endure them to and from track.

bridgy gt3s

size: 225/50/15
price: cant remember for the life of me
dry grip: great
wet grip: very good
tyre life: pretty good around 15k.. some track work.

the only thing lacking was turn in.. but that was more due to silly tyre size. but god it looks sweet 8)

Kumho V70A
size: 205/50/16
price: special @ mania 40bucks each  30%-40% tread but quoted 260 a corner else wear new
dry grip: first semi slik so a bias freakin sweet.
wet grip: had a low amount of tread by the time i ran them in wet so not alot.
tyre life: again cant comment as half dead by the time i got them but hear good things.

V70As i hear alot of people love for the fast warm up and next to no effect from heat cycles but arent up to D01 speed on track- im yet to confirm this myself but can see these tyres been ok for the supersprinter or weekender that dose a bit of track as the road wont screw em too fast and are liveable on the road.

p.s best thread ever

Type - Toyo T1R
Size - 215/40/16
Price - $176/tyre (balanced & fitted)
Dry grip - They're great but hard to compare 'cause my last set was 195s that are dried to the bones
Wet grip - Same, quite good, no aquaplaning as far as I can tell, I would think that having wider base and lesser effective contact area they would be slippery but non of that so far.
Tyre life - ~10000km, everyday & spirited & track driving...not even half way yet.
Road noise - can't tell but who cares anyway

I'd buy again but even wider at the rear to accomodate the 8\" wide rim.

Type - Michelin Pilot Preceda
Size - 215/45/17
Price - $305/tyre (12months ago - balanced, fitted, filled with N2)
Dry grip - Excellent, don't squeal until right on the limit. Nice stiff sidewall
Wet grip - Not superior to, say, Eagle F1 but still nice, progressive on the limit.
Tyre life - ~40000km, everyday & spirited driving (1370kg car too!)
Road noise - probably average compared to what i used in the past - Dunlops, Eagles, Rainsports.

Just purchased on the weekend:
Type - Michelin Pilot Primacy
Size - 225/45/17
Price - $315/tyre (balanced, fitted, filled with N2)
Dry grip - Excellent, don't squeal until right on the limit. Sidewall not as stiff, altogether not as responsive on turn in. A trade off for dramatically improved ride quality, and much less bump steer (a product of my tight coilovers/stiff 12kg/10kg spring rate)
Wet grip - So far i would say much superior to Preceda's.
Tyre life - ?
Road noise - noticeable lower than the Preceda's.

A part of me wonders how i would have found the PP2's.... but since i have discovered Wakefield, different wheels and tires will be sought for 'that' kind of driving.

Anyone else quoted on Primacy's? Curious to know if i was dealt a good deal or not.

Matt
