I'm NOT a fan of low-profile tyres and higher profile tyres DOESN'T always detract from performance.
There was an Australian TopGear episode (the Australian-produced version, not the TopGear guys in Australia) where they ran a "top-spec" HSV Commodore around their track, then "downgraded" to a higher-profile and cheaper rim and cut 2 seconds off their best lap time!
- The "Top Spec" version came with MUCH more expensive rims and tyres, was slower and would have been much more uncomfortable to drive.
I literally shudder when I see low-profile tyres on a car, it brings back memories of driving Gina (2004 MSM/SE) from Melbourne to Brisbane when I bought her to when I got rid of them. Every bump jolted through my body and hitting potholes or large bumps felt and sounded like I'd damaged the rim.
Most NB MSM/SE owners "upgrade" from the OEM 17" rims to 15" or 16" rims for a better ride, better performance (acceleration/turning/braking), less pad/rotor wear, cheaper rims and cheaper tyres.
