The best way to learn to be a good driver is starting with low power, which forces you to drive smoothly and maximise corner speeds, deep braking etc to get good lap times. That's not to say that starting with a lot of power is a bad thing, just that it can hide mistakes you make on the track by making up for lost time on the straights.
Get it track prepared, fluids and pads, safe coilovers etc and go drive it. Then decide what you want to do. You're starting from a heavily modified base, suspension advice might not suit your car. Bring it to QR club day on august 1 and find out how it feels on a safe track with lots of run off.

Think of it this way; if you had a Porsche GT3, Lotus Elise or similar track focused car, the car itself will set a faster time than an mx5 but would you try to? no one should ever try to set records on your first time out becAuse no matter how good your car is or how skilled you are, you're attempting something for the first time so it's all about learning..
if the important things are in good working condition, even if they are bog-stock components, then just go out and learn what the car can do, it's limits and more importantly YOUR limits.
Any novice should regard go-fast bits more as a measure to increase the safety zone and not a reason to push hard.
My first track day I just made sure I had the best "performance" tyres available (Bridgestone Grid III), lightweight wheels and flushed brake fluid with higher spec/boiling point. The rest of my car was dead standard.

I like this philosophy, bits to increase safety margin while learning...

Paul knows his stuff and has done a few MX5's but mainly plays with newer Datsuns.

I don't have the same amount of power as you but in general use about 40ltrs/100km on the track! This is a 1.9ltr naturally aspirated MX5 running on E85.
You cannot go past seat time, this is what it has done for me. In 2016 I decided to get as much seat time as possible, looking at the QR National

The recent improvement could be attributed to swapping the FZ201's for AD08's, cumulative seat time, taking a riser out of the rear wing, removing the passenger seat or swapping out the Peders XA's on the front for BC ER's.
