thank you very much for replying guys. i have now decided to go for 15's. most likely 15x7 on the fronts and 15x8 on the rears.

there is no reason to get a staggered set.

Please either:

1. Do some more research (you DON't want staggered rims on an MX5 and 15x7's will be lighter than 15x8s which you don't really need unless you've got a decent amount of power or intend to do some serious track work), or

2. Join clubroadster.com to learn how to really screw up the handling of your car.

Jesus Christ... You know you old guys don't seem to understand that not every mx5 is a dedicated track or hill climb car, the drivers aren't all hardened racers either. This is shocking I know but some people just want to have a pretty car to daily from a to b. Staggered wheels, wheels over 15" stretch tyres etc are not my thing either but I respect that others like it and that is great. A lot of people daily driving will never push their cars hard enough to ever see the difference in handling between different wheel diameters, offsets, staggering, tyre size and even choice.
Don't be so quick to judge Clubroadster either, I understand you are just a condescending hottie and all and maybe it puts a smile on your wrinkled old face when you look down on anyone who doesn't have a perfect track setup car. But that is life, we all have different wants and needs.
Yes it won't handle as good, I agree there is no reason to stagger but guess what guy? IT DOES NOT MATTER.

judging by OP's other threads (raceland coilovers etc) he is definitely not interested in doing any research or improving his mx5, its all about the "stance". This is quite sad, but seems to be happening to many mx5's recently.

If he is only interested in aesthetics im not sure why he wants a staggered set up, you get more dish with an 8" in the front aswell as the back.

(I personally have a staggered set up of 7/8. Not ideal, but you cant be too picky when buying 2nd hand rims.)

Yes I am aware of that too. But I see it this way; I bought my 91 ED Civic sedan as a daily. I know it will never be anything but a daily either. I wanted one because I love the boxy shape and the tail lights. In my opinion it is a good looking car. I will be putting on wheels and lowering the car as well as putting on a front lip. Does ot need wider wheels and tyres? Hell no. But I think it would look cool and it makes me happy to see it that way.
This is no different to the mx5. What if I bought one because I liked convertibles and the shape bit had no interesy in handling or performance? Suddenly I am a wanker for adding things I feel enhance the look? Is it a sin to 'ruin' the handling of a car? It comes down to what you want to do.

Right but then when I put 6 spoke wheels that arent made by SSR on my racecar they are 'copies' and people say ƒü¢k my fake wheels?

But this is definitely not a stancey forum nor community, thats why clubroadster has been pointed out.
There will always be the people who turn their noses up at anything other than calculated suspension dynamics / tyre sizes / wheel weights etc.

Dann, that is kind of another story all together haha.
I think the problem with "fake wheels" is that if you cant afford something you shouldn't have it. It makes no sense to me to have $600 rota zero's, that are an identical rip off of 2k work equips. The real deal are impressive because they are the real deal.
It can come down to quality etc, my works are 3pc, and weigh 5.5kg. the rotas are 1 pc, 7 or 8kg.
Sure call me a wanker for caring about brand names etc, and i guess it is true to some extent :roll:
And its not even that all knock off wheels are bad quality, its just why do they need to be ripping off a style / design? why cant they be their own design, perfect for someone who wants a nice wheel but doenst care to spend millions of dollars.

Its the same as girls walking about with copy luis vitton or chanel handbags. The genuine bags can be 5k. Their copies were not more than $50.

You are kidding, all of the 'real' wheels are like 5th generation copies of wheels that were designed in the 50's and 60's.

In 10 years time rotas will be the 'real' wheels and whatever is out in 2020 will be the 'fake copy'.

Emily, a knock-off LV bag is made to deceive. It has all the fake branding and is made to look and feel like the original.

On the other and Rotas are Rotas. Design is similar, but they are of a different brand, and you can pick the difference when you look at it.

It comes back to a point I made some time ago - Rotas were bagged for "knocking off" Watanabes, and the JDM lovers were crying out that Watanabes were the original design, etc etc. Of course, there is the small matter of Watanabes copying a couple of earlier designs.

I think design similarity is a different issue to "knock-offs".

I actually agree with you on this. I had this convo with a mate and we came to the same conclusion. The only difference between genuine and knock off is time. In 40 years people will be hunting craigslist and gumtree for rare 2011 Rota Grids and XXR 501's the same way people stalk YAJ for jdm wheels.
I know that will hurt a lot of wheel enthusiasts but its true.

Nah... I don't think so. I think Watanabes may be forgotten, and in fact, i feel they would have been if it weren't for Initial D. Rotas wouldn't have much if a chance as a mass market product.

The Tecnomagnesios and Mini Lites on the other hand are still sought after in their own right, though within a much smaller community.
