I was thinking along the lines of..... " here's a new car with a similar philosophy to the MX5, so what can be learned from it's specifications?" As Toyota/Subaru decided on the mentioned wheel and tyre specs, I thought this might be worth investigating for my car. I now realise the wheel specs are part of the suspension package design as a whole and not appropriate for mine.
Very good driving report in The Weekend Australian . He details the 86's design credentials ( basically fast driving sensation at legal speeds) and mentions why smaller wheels and tyres are part of the design brief...
Sound familiar ? It will be a modders heaven, but will they actually improve it?
...and I guess they must legally fit stability control

Here are the perfect alignment settings, as vouched for by the International Alignment Setting Committee who have done quite a bit of research into the topic.

Keep both sides the same.

Front
Camber: -7.5
Castor: -4.36
Toe: Out 5.4

Rear: Camber +4
Castor: +2
Toe: In 6.8

OP made three separate threads in the last few months about losing the back end in the wet, needing new shocks and needing new shocks; all three of which were solved by an alignment.

I know it is not a NB, and they are not 17 inch wheels...... but I think these 15 x 7, with 205/50/15 tyres, 38mm offset, Chaparral Wheels would look good on a NB. No need to roll the wheel arches either.

Damn but that yellow looks hot!
But I have learned from this that 17" wheels are not to be put on an NB....I don't mind the look, but the inevitable harsh ride is a no-no. :frown:
And...that poor wheel alignment, not the shocks, is the surprising source of most "banging and skipping" problems with front end ride.
Priceless.... thanks guys.

This thread is awesome haha so much "contradictory advice" going on!

Not advice as such, but more to think about. I'm rockin 17"s on my NB8A atm and I think the ride is fine. No I don't know the weight or offset (or proper photos) yet as I haven't had time to go through that. Yes it doesn't ride as good as my original 15"s but thats got more to do with the cheap tyres on these 17"s. I got them cheap and I think they look good so thats why I'm using them, more to save my decent race tyres which I have on my original 15"s. The suspension is stock, just bracing and a rollbar, so more chassis stiffness.

I heard loads of times "17inches is poisen! stick with 15!!!!" but I tried it one day and I don't mind the difference. Fine for me to plot around with, no serious racing though hehe!

IMO you wont know if you like them until you try. Everybody is different.
