i think i'll order a pair of these and some of their bump stops for the front in the next couple of weeks!

there was a pair of apexi's for sale on here/ebay a little while ago and i should have snapped them up then.

flying miata are USA yeah??... all orders from there?

Cost me $140 to get the bushes manufactured, but that was because my mate decide to move is lath 200km away and it seem like too much hassle to drive in terms of time and fuel for $140.

I was going to get the FM ones, until the apexi ones showed up. I doubt you will have to make bushes for the FM ones, you just need to know your damper shaft diameter.

Got mine from mania. They are a combines dust boot bump stop. They work nicely with my konis.

I would not bother with different bump stops and sort out the actual problem, which is the suspension travel reduction when lowering the car. If you are hitting the bump stops a lot than you need to change the top mounts.

On my car, sorting out the top mounts = 1.5 seconds over a 2km sprint track

The idea is to give 20mm more strut travel = 35mm more wheel travel. My mounts are apexi with koni dampers, I had to get some bushes made (see above) Flyin Miata do them too. I re-used the standard bump stops, the car is totally different, no more bouncing around and unpredictability.

correct......the issue is very limited travel, particularly in the NA and particularly in the rear.

Mazda rectified this with the top mount design for the NB.......they give significantly more travel for a given ride height, have a more direct feel and are also lighter than the NA mounts.

Luckily the complete NB mount kit can be bought from Mazda Spare parts and retrofitted to an NA. Costs around 200 bucks for mounts, bushes and washers. I dont know why more people with NAs dont do this mod

i now have to drive the mx5 daily for a while cos the falcon has done a head gasket (pile of poo it is )
and the road to work is driving me insane with the harshness of the ride!

so i think i'll order the fly'n miata ones. we have a pretty good exchange rate atm and that way i'll get the decent bump stops also (i'll get some front ones while im at it)
one thing i noticed was it said mx5 mania was a distrubutor?? does that mean i could get them directly from them? that would be heaps easier if i could.

ok so i purchased the fm top mounts. nice piece of kit!
fitted them in along with some front bump stops...
..now it clunks around in the rear! im thinking all of the suspension is stock from the factory and the springs have sagged so much they are binding up!!??
can someone post some pics or direct me to some of the rear suspension (under load) of standard and some after market springs?
i'll post a pic of mine soon and you can tell me what you think (if you want)

It wont matter whether the springs have sagged or not. If they are binding then the compressed height of the shock assembly is to short for that spring. Does FM recomend their setup for use with standard springs?

There is a very thin piece of white plastic that fits over the top mount and therefore sits between the top mount and the body of the car. If that is not put back when the shock absorber is re-installed it can cause a clunk....it is amazing the difference that a thin piece of plastic makes.

yeah they can be used on standard setups. i think that is the main reason why they were made. (to give the standard suspension more travel)

juffa, i did notice the white plastic "spacers" on the front but there was no mention of using them with the FM ones on the rear?
i cant really see them masking the noise it is making atm

it sits quite low. it has 17inch sp rims and the body sits just above the rim...

i am trying to up load some pics but it says the fie is too big (was taken on phone camera) any way to resize?

also while i was under there i found another problem (maybe THE problem?).
passenger side shock has leaked all of its oil it never leaked before i put the top mounts in.
could the extra travel have got them working again and the seal's/shock are stuffed?
like i said im pretty sure they are original (20 years!!)
although the sound sounded like it was coming from the driver side?

also on another note. i came across a set of mazdaspeed coilovers but just the shock body only...
1) are they any good?
2) could i buy the spring and height adjusting nut etc from a suspension place (everything but the shock) or would it have to be mazdaspeed gear?

i think im just going to buy a set of BC coilovers and be done with it.
i was just in thailand for a couple of weeks and had a bit of a search but was too hard with the language barrier. did get talking to a guy about teins but he said they were waaaay to expensive at 40 000 baht... which is just over $1300 aus!!! and could'nt really understand where he was tring to send me.

i paid $384 USD delivered, around $400 aus i think ($70 USD for delivery) so when i pull them out and have a look and make sure they are still ok (maybe some cosmetic scratch's, grease and dirt etc) i'll give a final price.

Depending on how low you want to go you may still need the FM top mounts. Si.G actually bought the pair of Apexi top mounts from me on flea bay (although he might not know it was me). I have tein flex coilovers, and found that I needed the extra travel that the Apexi top mounts provide on the rear as I was riding on the bump stops all of the time.
