Well I have got two options now. The tarox kit which is good for the below reasons.

285mm 2 piece disk

6 pot caliper which looks very rigid and has massive 149 x 58mm pad

Comes with all the usual bits and has a matching rear kit for later down the road.

The price I have found is about 1340 pound delivered. thats about 2800 aud at the moment. they have about 6 different grade of pads available from performance road to endurance racing which is good.

The other kit is a custom kit from hi spec in the uk.

It will have a 290mm 2 piece disk and all the other bits like bracket, lines and pads.

It has a smaller 114 x 43mm pad but its about 500g lighter per caliper and more compact thus can run a larger disk. This is a race caliper with stainless pistons etc blah blah but I am not too sure if its completely suited to road use - will have to ask how it goes with dust etc.

I am yet to see a complete price on this but have been quoted 800 pound plus pads, lines and deliver. so it should be a little cheaper.

ok i have a price for the hi spec kit of 920pound plus delivery - which is about 120pound. its around 500 aud cheaper than the tarox kit. what do you guys think? the hi spec has good range of pads including ds2500 and 3000. in these tough times i may have to go with this kit.

I reckon you are slightly mad if you are spending that kind of money ($2500 to $3000) and you are only getting calipers of unknown quality. For that money, you could get an AP, Alcon or Brembo caliper with a two piece rotor. I think the Brembo front kit for the NBs is just under $3k including rotors and stainless lines.

A fully custom made setup is about:
$400 caliper brackets
$1400 calipers (AP)
$500 rotors
$300 pads
$200 lines
$2800 total in a 1 piece rotor.

Add $700 for custom hats in alloy for 2 piece rotors.

Go to a performance brake shop and get a quote. If you import stuff - where you going to get spares from? Most "race" type calipers don't have dust seals either so the pistons won't last long if dust gets past the main seals.

no rice side - well not much. OK I think I may have to get the ap racing kit as ct's point about unknown quality is a good one. I will have to get spacers but thats no biggie. price for that is 1070 pound delivered so its about on the mark. what ap caliper does everyone use? this is the road caliper from the kit listed on the ap racing website. do the race people use a race caliper?

i have just had a look and the ap racing caliper is cast. is this the same as used by the race car mx5 drivers here?

I use the Lotus Exige upgrade caliper from AP (rotors from 280 to 296mmx26mm) which is slightly smaller than the other APs you might see around - both are road calipers but are great for the MX5. Racing spec caliper from AP start around $1500 per caliper......road ones from around $700.

I still recommend you go and see a local, professional brake place so you get a kit with locally available rotors and pads otherwise you are up for big bucks when they need replacing.

If you change your mind and go back to the Goodwins because it's all too hard - Brian will sell you a kit with a DBA sourced rotor so you can purchase the rotors from you local DBA dealer. But you need to ask him...

thanks ct - exactly what i wanted to know. i have contacted race brakes and one other i can't remember right now about what options they may have.
