HELP! Shimmy'ing mx-5.

Well today after a trip to bob janes and a drive with one of their crew, I finally got what I needed to have a "fault diagnostic" done by the RAC (as i'm a member).
To recap- bob jane put the wheels on the car saturday plus two of the tyres, balanced the lot and aligned.

I took the car in for my free fault diagnostic at the RAC. Surprise surprise, the front right wheel has a buckle- one of the rims bob janes took rubber off and put new rubber on (good to see they're paying attention!), apparently they also grossy overweighted the wheels than was necessary, and also caused the new tyres to wear out of round .

Now I just have to find new wheels or a 4th stock wheel for an NA8. The plan was to put Bridgestone ER300's on the front and put the new crappy tyres on the rear and make the tread disappear quicker than usual, but now it seems I may have reason to get a refund.

*Edit*

The shimmy has been fixed. By putting on the 17" alloys on the front (still legal rolling diameter), and leaving the stock wheels on the rear, the vehicle now drives without shudder, even with the crappy tyres and ordinary wheel alignment. Thanks everyone for your assistance/advice, and I will be much appreciative of suggestions for wheel alignment! :D

Glad to hear the problem is solved! Will we see you on this Sunday's cruise??
(check MX5 Club of WA for more info)

Majority of the club members use tried and tested suspension and tyre specialists such as the ones I mentioned earlier in this thread. We almost never go to BJ or Ian D as they just treat the MX5 like any other car. I personally had a brand new set of Enkei RPF1s dented by some tool who had to remove the tyre he had put on wrongly

Some of our club members have been using Wheelsworld and Bridgestone Bentley for more than 15yrs :!: Plus Bridgestone Bentley are your sole local motorsport agent so you can get your RE55s there 8)

Anyway hope to see you on this Sunday's run!

Hey,

Unfortunately not as i'm not a member yet and I work Sundays. It's very good money, so it's hard to pass up.
A friend put me in contact with Ian Lewis, you may know him . Anyway he's offered to give me some advice on where to go/what to do from here on with the mx5, so I ought to be in good hands!

Will be contacting wheelsworld when I have 4 rims and tyres on worth balancing/aligning again hehe

I realise now what a mistake it was going to Bob Jane Balcatta in the first place, but i'm actually quite shocked at how poorly they're dealing with it. RAC documented the tyres bob jane put on are out of round, Bob Jane Balcatta says "prove it" and won't do anything about it. Then the franchisee starts up- "you wanna take this to court? you wanna take this to the accc?" and starts rambling about his QC...... all this over what, $250?.......
