2001+ Automatic Proportioning feature??

Postby guss_bruss » Fri Nov 18, 2016 10:49 am

I've been in contact with Flyin' Miata about their Willwood big brake kit with 2 piece rotors, Looking to just upgrade the fronts to willwoods. They have gotten back to me saying that ALL 2001+ ABS equipped Miatas sold in the US had an automatic proportioning feature which means you wouldn't need to run a proportioning valve when running bigger front brakes. They were not sure if this feature is present in AUS model MX-5's

Does anybody know if this Automatic Proportioning feature made it onto AUS model MX5's??

Non ABS models have a proportioning valve, but ABS models don't. I understand the ABS does the proportioning.

Ask Beavis in his build thread. He just put wilwoods on his Japanese nb8b and put a prop valve in.

I think he did an ABS delete.

Correct.

Thanks for confirming that. Do you know if I will or will not need a proportioning valve? I ordered the kit without it as I believe I don't but just wanting to double check.

All NB8B's here had ABS with EBD.
Funny how people have forgotten what EBD is since the introduction of 500 or so new acronyms from every manufacturer which all stand for some sort stability control system with ABS and EBD.
Electronic Brakeforce Distribution.
It works in conjunction with ABS to provide maximum braking to each wheel under hard braking.
In a NB8B case the 2 fronts are separate and the 2 rears as a single unit since they only have a 3 channel system.
