I much prefer the old bronze. This new one is more of a gold than a bronze, IMO.

I was thinking silver or tungsten for my SS ... but it seems silver is being discontinued.

Yeah, not a fan of the Gen 4 bronze.

Interesting topic.

On a related note and going back to the early 70's, for people like myself, JBT and Zero000 you may remember the Chargers with the ROH "jellybean" wheels. A great design that were very strong.

Leo Geoghan wrote a great piece on race preparation for the Chargers, for all facets even down to the exhaust to use for series production racing, pipe sizes where to bend and so on. Back to the wheels, the W35 wheels specified as part of the A84 track pack were 14x7 jellybean design and were some of teh first "mag" wheels to be factory fitted.

In his race set article Leo stated that his race team lifed the wheels for 18 races only, and they don't have thin spikes like the 6UL wheels, so it pays to check your wheels every track day.

My original 18x8" wheels I used on my Zed were rerolled so many times that the company I used refused to do them any more as the metal would be too soft on the outers from constant running over ripple strips, something we all do when chasing the clock.

I called up Mania the other day and they told me their shipment won't arrive until another 3 months.

I also had a set of gen II's, I bought it used from a bloke who got them off Dr. Honda's yellow EG civic. Used them for a few months, there were no cracks on it. I then sold it to a mate and a few days later he sent photos of the wheels with two cracks on one of them. I never tracked the wheels, neither did he... Maybe he just tackled them Sydney potholes rather than dodging lol.

Yes MattR, I remember those Charger mags very well (loved the look) and I'm surprised they gave them such a short life. I never gave this wheel cracking issue a thought in the past.

I have been very wary of wheel cracks since these problems became more well publicised (thanks to forums) in the last decade. I have only run OEM wheels at track days and check them and the spare set with the road tyres very carefully after I swap and wash them (off the car) after each event. So that's around every few months. But I also hand wash and dry the wheels weekly when they are on the car, so another check is also done then.

As Akldn said, Mania indicated that the wheels are some months away but welcome orders or EOIs so that they can get info on pricing and availability to those on their list. The same applies to Enkies through the Australian supplier Autotechnik Tuning as they hold little stock in country.
