Beware knockoff wheels

Postby 949Racing » Fri May 20, 2016 9:52 am

It has come to my attention that the proprietor of a water ski mfr in Australia is looking to enter the wheel market with a wheel as close to our 6UL as possible. This person has zero interest in engineering or manufacturing anything new nor doing any of the R&D we do. Just looking to make a quick buck copying our design it appears. They may never get made but if you run across a deal on something that looks like a genuine flow formed 6UL but isn't quite, carefully evaluate whether buying them is a good choice for you or not.

MX5 Mania is our official importer and distributor in AU and NZ. They should have their first shipment by August 2016.

These have been on eBay for over a year. Sorry I should have said something, I just assumed you knew.

Can't find them on there at the moment. You'll know they're fake because they're around $500-$600.

I see genuine 6UL wheels listed by our UK dealer/distributor, Tegiwa Imports. That will change shortly now that MX5 Mania is our exclusive importer in AU/NZ.

I also see genuine 949 Racing alloy valves misappropriated from us by James Tinsley, (MX5 Centre) a few years ago. Ordered, shipped but never paid for along with a few dozen wheels back in 2011 or so.

If anyone sees what look like knockoffs, please post here or email to info@949racing.com We had seen a company in Thailand selling a wheel that looked very similar but with a different brand. Those seem to have disappeared. Another well known Japanese brand made copies and actually marketed them as 949 Racing 6UL's. We outed them on facebook and they stopped immediately. It's a constant struggle.

That would explain the cheap sale price of the wheels back in 2011 (I bought a set of 10's back then).Side note- I have bought every size 6UL wheel made. True story :)

Yeah I remember them being the same size as all the eBay wheels, 8" +20 or +25 or thereabouts.
