HS51 is not the replacement for the KU31. KU is a ultra high performance tyre. HS is a Solus, eg grand touring and street tyre.

Re: Kumho KU31 and HS51 tyres
I just got a set of KU31's fitted yesterday.
They are around, you just need to look for them.
As said before, look for parallel importers.
What project says above is true, although the line many tyre places are using is HS's are the direct replacement. Possibly to suck in the unknowing. I have also heard from one retailer that they replaces KU's with HS's
because they offer better wear on the out end of the tyres....
KU23's are also out there, not sure how they compare to the ever popular 31's though.

My local Bob Jane tyre guy tells me that the KU39 is the replacement for the KU31 - same performance characteristics.
The KU31 is a unidirectional tyre whereas the KU39 is an asymmetric tyre.

^
KU39s are track tyres (soft) so they're wear VERY quickly for DD and they're more expensive than KU31s.
Your Bob Jane tyre guy is either a moron or just wants to sell you tyres that he knows will wear quickly.
THey're a great track tyre in the dry - not so much in the wet.

^ You're thinking of KU36 Lokiel.
Can highly recommend Michelin PS3's, they're the perfect performance road tyre. You'll spend a little more, but well worth it.
