Camber wear on second hand tyres

Postby Ben MX5 » Tue Jun 24, 2014 9:07 pm

Hi there,

Thanks to everyone who helped out on this thread viewtopic.php?f=30&t=63552. Since, I've found a cheap set of 15x7 +40 wheels that I like the look of and weigh about the same as the OEM rims and they're being fitted with AD08Rs on Monday. My plan is to keep this set for MX-5 club vic championship rounds. Feel free to let me know if this plan is rubbish - I don't know what I'm talking about but am trying to work it out.

I've also arranged to pick up this second hand set of wheels and tyres:

They're 205/50 R15 Falken Azenis.

I've got a stock NB8C with the maximum negative camber that the adjustors will allow. This is about -1.2 deg per side on the back. The front is assymmetric - one side is about -1 deg, the other side is about -0.3 degree. As an aside does this assymetry suggest a problem - should I be looking in to this?

Is the camber wear on the Falkens going to be a problem? I'm heading to the PIARC sprint practice day this Saturday - would I be better off taking the Falkens or my 205/45 R16 Kumho KU 31s on OEM rims?

Cheers
Ben

should be fine. the tyre wall will flex and control the contact surface. inner wear doesn't look bad.

is that 1 degree neg one side and half a degree neg the other? or 3/10ths?

Either way, I'd be advising that you get them symmetrical.

I don't think it's necessarily indicative of a problem but why not ask the alignment shop what they think?
