I use both alloy and steel...Works Engineering has both
I switched the Integra to steel as I was going to swap wheels and just never got around to doing the MX5. That said, when I recently went to swap tyres at North Rocks KMart Tyre, I was pleasantly surprised that the guys used a torque wrench on my car.
Like nanotech said, you can just afford to be that little bit rougher with steel nuts. I've seen alloys cross threaded quite easily but you've got to be quite an oaf to do it with steelies.
Why does everyone freak out over alloy nuts?

I wil
l say that I would never ever leave the work nuts on when taking the car to a shop. I would slwaus put on a cheap set and replace them when I got the car home. Most mechanics and tyre shops wont care and just rattlegun them on until they bend or crack. You can't treat alloys like normsl wheel nuts.
Brilliant idea!
Twice when I've taken my wheels to Beaurepaires for balancing and told them explicitly to use a torque wrench on the 949 wheelnuts and what limit to use they ignored the instructions completely and it took a LOT of effort to loosen the nuts manually (I always undo and redo the nuts myself whenever anyone else has been dicking around with them - manually loosening the nuts gives me a feel for just how much they've tightened the nuts).
Next purchase is a set of steely wheelnuts for the 6ULs!
