Installing Poly bushes

Postby chefie » Tue Jan 01, 2013 6:44 pm

I am looking for some feedback on whom has installed a grease fitting ( Zerk ) into the bush housing on the suspension arms to assist with regular lube for the Poly bushes. the car has 200k ks on original and the camber buses are worn so its a need to do ASAP

I have everything ready to go for this new year project including the grease nipples, But my gut feeling is drilling a 5mm hole in a suspension arm may defect the car and create insurance issues.

It is not a DD it is a weekender with as many track days as I can get too, fitting Ten SS and whiteline at the same time

The questions do I fit the zerks or not as per the FM web site recommends.

appreciate the feedback

Personally I would not even contemplate doing this.
I would install new bushes when needed and grease the bushes properly on install.
And then only using the proper grease supplied with the bushes.

My response is completely the exact opposite of the above.

Finally installed all the bushes over Easter i had some problem with the ball joints , it was a simple process and anyone considering should have a go, i still don,t have the Wheel alignment i want, ill give it time.

I decided not to install zerks only based on the following:

I plan to review the bushes at 12 months and will probably pull down each corner. i wanted to evaluate the Poly V rubber with out the extra work and i painted the wishbones and ran out of time

Net result is the change is fantastic, the steering and direction of the car is completely different, you do feel significant transfer through the wheels that was not present previously, the rear bushes were fused and the suspension is now actually working.

If i keep the prothane bushes ill follow Danns advice an install Zerks
