NB8B Rear pads - Is there a difference?

I recently went to by new pads for my NB8B brakes on my NA6.

I have been advised that Hawk distinguish between 01-02 sport brakes rears and 03-05.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the 01-02 and 03-05 rear callipers or is it just the pads?
How different are the pads? Are Hawk the only pad maker that distinguish a difference?

Has anyone come across this before??

That was in relation to rotors, not pads.

Direct from Brian at Good-win "Hawk makes a distinction between 2001-2002 Rear SPORT…..and 2003-2005 Rear Sport pads. SPORT Rotors same size either way."

MiataTurbo guys seem to think that the backing plates are different, but pads are possibly interchangeable.

Its also possible that the difference related to the fact mazda have a differnt part number for SE brakes, although general consensus is they are identical to standard NB8B apart from colour. but then why is it different 03-05 and not 04-05?

Do products have different part numbers for colours?

I baught a front and rear set of Bendix pads.

DB1386 GCT -Front
DB1508 GCT - Rear

Haven't fitted them yet however.

You were saying the American 'Sport' model brakes went standard in 03? Was there a change then?

The disc size stayed the same, the question is wether or not there was a change to the calliper and/or pad. It seems unlikely, but why are there 2 part numbers for the Hawk pads?

Exactly what I mean, there are always little changes when production moves full scale.

Hawk still supplies to an American market?

More digging has confirmed that the rear NB8B callipers are all the same other than the SE version is painted silver.

Hawk is the only company that seems to have 2 part numbers. Other brands use just one part number for the rear pads.

Brian seems to think the only difference between the 2 hawk versions is a small tab on the rear pads.

In USA they had 2 versions of the NB8B the Sport version is the same as the Aussie NB8B.

The non sport version NB8B which was not available in Australia has the smaller NB8A brakes and 5 speed gearbox.

So when you order anything for a NB8B you have to say Sport version.
NC Roadie, NC Racey, ND Racey….and a 30AE

Plus several others in the bone yard...
