I sent the left-rear coilover to Otomoto 2 weeks ago due to a clunky sound, and will be receiving them back in a couple of days. Initially I thought it was a manufacturing issue, but turns out the damper was not faulty at all. The clunky sound was completely due to the main nut being very loose. Loose enough to actually be easily turned with a wrench! So everytime it went over a bump, the damper body just moved up. They just tightened it down again and voila! it's done.

I'm a bit chuffed as why I didn't noticed that could've been a problem (triple checked all the torque settings). But I guess, count it as a $20 lesson in being thorough. So if in the future your coilovers develop a clunk, the main nut may be the main reason for it. But always use a torque wrench to tighten up to spec - never a rattle gun!
