NC Brakes

Hi all,

I'm up for new brake pads soon and was wondering what other NC drivers are running?

I'm unsure what is in the car at the moment.

I'm after something that is decent yet low dust and doesn't eat through rotors while not costing a bucket load

I have used QFM A1RM in my NB in the past and were happy with those and I can pick up both front and rear for about $300 at my door. But I'm open to hear what others think and what others are running.

OEM. Have replaced the fronts once when about two thirds worn. Bought a complete OEM set 11 months ago for $270 and will fit them before Natmeet. Current ones are about half worn but should be OK for Lakeside on 26 March.

Ive herd nothing but praise from the qfm pads.....

I'm going to go a set of em next round

How many Kms on your car tein? I only have 27k so will be a while before pads are due I guess

It's heading towards 58,000km

Something similar to the A1RMs are the Lucas/TRW pads. But don not know if anyone has tried them on a NC.

If the feel of the QFM pads is consistent regardless of car, then I would go with what you know and install QFM again.

I drove Novice1's car at the last mountain run, he had QFM's, and they had the best feel of any brand I've dríven/tried.

Novice1 shares the same opinion. I'm not sure the exact model of QFM, PM him to confirm. I think it's the A1RM as he said they dust a fair bit.

I WAS going to try EBC YellowStuff for my next "performance" pad, but I've changed my mind to the QFMs.... unless some kind soul out there will give me a drive of their car with YellowStuff installed.

Ive been using Carbotec XP8's for a while now. They dust up like buggery, I mean my rims are Black after a track day but MAAAAN do they stop ! No fade lap after lap. You do have to warm them up though

Got them through carbotechaus@optusnet.com.au and they weren't that expensive. Streets ahead of the EBC's I had on before.

Good kilometres if they are the Mazda pads.

From the front pads I’ve tried, the best pads for every day use and the odd track day are the original Mazda pads. Problem is that they are more expensive than every other pad bar the top end track pads but they do last a lot longer. As one of your main objectives is low dust they should be on top of your list.

Next pad is the Hawk HPS. It doesn’t dust much and are quite cheap at the moment buying from Good-Win Racing. They’re a good road pad. They don’t ruin your rotors and dust similar to the OEM pad. Not suitable for the track. They start well but fade when they have a lot of heat in them.

EBC pads DUST. Reds will send your wheels dark grey in two weeks, Yellows in three days. Reds aren’t a track pad, they start off performing well but fall apart when half worn under the extreme heat of track days. They last about 15 – 17,000 kilometres. Yellows are an abrasive pad that works on the road and track but you will need to replace your rotors every year. A couple of us had a bad batch last year and they crystallised after just one or two track days. Generally they last about 7,000 kilometres.
