I think I'll go back to lurking in the background, I ask one dumbass newbie question and war breaks out. Hehe ;)
I put my elise into a tyrewall 18mths ago, smashed the rear clam and bent the rear LHS wishbones. Scuffed the wheel. Mate works for industrial x ray scanning and crack testing company and tested the wheel for me, its perfect. They may be heavy but just like the MX5 they are good value for money for the average punter not trying to set lap records. Don't believe the hype from people trying to justify their lavish purchases, I see enough of that rubbish on Lotus forums.

Haha! I've been through all that myself and realize there are more important things to spend my money on.
At the same time, I've never used Rotas myself but completely agree with you.

Re: Do these wheels fit?
Why buy one set of 'real' wheels, when you can buy an identical set of 'fake' wheels, along with a full turbo setup?
My SSR wheels imported from the kingdom of JDM cost less than buying XXR rims locally or off the internet new, yes my wheels are old my age, but the condition is perfect.
Secondly, anyone intending to argue with Dann over any car v mx5 is pointless, as he will always defend the mx5 regardless of the good and bad facts. It's a pointless argument, no matter who gives the better response because no one will ever agree.
Stock a new Elise is better stock than a new mx5 at the same track with the same driver. Costing more yes, but not everyone wants to modify there vehicles. Mx5s need to modify to compete.
Personally I would rather a Caterham than an Elise.

What are you talk in about Paul? I'm just pointing out that negative comments on Rotas are unfounded, and that even the branded wheels break. Not going into the "knock off" discussion because those of us old enough will remember that most designs have been copied over the last 3 decades or more!
I don't see any argument here?

Very different sensation to drive, I assume you have tried both?
The clubbies feel weird with the long bonnet and you are virtually sitting on the rear wheels but I'm sure it would be something you'd get used to..
And if the Elise is not practical, the clubbies are just silly.
I did seriouslty consider a late model Caterham before purchasing the elise, they are just a little too hardcore for me to live with all year even though the extreme performance would have been awesome.
No luggage space, stonechipped elbows, very poor weather protection.
I use the Elise alot for weekend trips away and almost every weekend for blasts through the mountains regardless of the weather, Club members with clubbies often stay at home if the weather is crap, although if they do venture out over winter its funny watching them rug up like they are visiting the Antarctic.
Going on a day Drive just with some mates on Sunday from Healesville to Jamieson, there may be a few Elises and perhaps a new Evora, I can pretty much guarantee that the clubbies will stay home.
A friend has an Elfin V8, its strictly a fair weather only car, if he ventures out in the wet he brings the Mrs Golf GTI.
I need to win Lotto so I can have them all.
