How much clearance is there on the inside of NA wheelarches?

Postby Adam_NAclubman » Wed Jan 13, 2010 11:44 pm

I'm getting some 7 and 8 inch rims with a +35 offset, so the rears will stick an extra 15mm towards the centre of the car, ie on the suspension side. Will that work without spacers? I don't think I've ever run anything that reduces clearance on that side before... I know what fits on the outer side pretty well though lol

I think you should be fine. 6ULs are 15x8 +35 and don't require modification to anything on an otherwise stock car (brakes etc).

Guys,
I am sure you all realise that it will be the the diameter of the wheel and the width of tyres that you run that will dictate clearance in this case (7" or 8" wide +35 offset)? However, Adam_NAclubman has not mentioned the diameter he is getting so we can only guess.

If it is a 15" 6UL wheel then see below.

15x8 195/45 - 195/50 - 205/50 - 215/45 - 225/45 fit standard length dampers no rubbing at all ride heights. 225/45 may require trimming liner with short body coilovers with short body coilovers that allow the suspension to compress further than stock. 225/50 fit NB's fine, NA's require trimming liners with short body coilovers. 225/45 at least -1.25* front camber recommended for the NA, NB's clear with stock alignment.
If it is a 16" wheel then 205/50/R16 will rub on full lock and 225/50/R16 will require removal of the inside splash guard - if you have lowered the car 25-30mm.
Hope this helps.

16's. Unless the difference with diameter is that smaller ones wont fit because some protrudes, I don't see how diameter makes any difference whatsoever.

Splash guards are long-gone

I'll probably get 195's, 205's at worst, and in a profile that is as close as possible to stock rolling circumfrence (which on a 15 is a 195/50 so probably a 195/45 on a 16?, and if 205 I'd think a 205/40)

car height make a big difference. My 195's lightly rub on full lock carpark duties but my car is lower than most.

I have 195/50/15 Bridgestones on 15x7 +35 RPF1's with no rubbing and I'm about as low as you can go legally.

I've previously tried 205/50/16 and 195/50/16 on 16x7's (not sure of offset) and they both rubbed.
