Airbags on a 5?

Postby bruce » Thu Oct 01, 2009 5:13 pm

I am just slipping on my flame-proof suit...

I like the look of an airbagged car. I guess the main problem of doing it to a 5 would be the handling would go out the window due to the use of airbags. The other would be that the airtank would fill the boot.

Thoughts?

No idea how real they were but I have heard of kits that claim minimal losses in handling.
A smaller tank could be jammed up under the boot perhaps?

By 'you like the look of an airbagged car' I'm assuming you like the chassis rails on the floor look?

Yup, I luv the look of a car sitting on the ground.

I think you'd need 2x 1 gallon tanks and with the compressors, etc, you would have no boot space left.

Every time the height changes, so does the camber and toe settings. So you still have to pick a height and stick to it unfortunately. You just get the joy of dropping it when you park.

Legal, provided they've been engineered.

Airbags are not designed to run at high speed either.

Not sure why you'd bother...

Not a fan.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Have a talk to Heasmans in Sydney.
They import a lot of these kits and fit them as well, and will also give you some good advice on this.

We may end up withthe first dancing MX-5 in Oz! :D

Their web address is http://www.heasmans.com.au

No dancing 5s for me !
My mind is drifting far afield with the airbags ie. American musclecars.
