Strut/suspension clearance?

Postby hks_kansei » Fri Sep 18, 2009 5:00 pm

just out of curiousity, how much clearance do we (NB8a) have before a wheel/tyre will start to rub the strut/suspension?

there's about 25-30mm before a wheel will start to catch the guard (assuming no camber) but what about inner clearance?

just been lookign at wheels/offset etc, and basically I've found one that I like.

specs are:
15x6.5 +35 (+35 is the lowest offset for that wheel apparently)

stock is 15x6 +38 (offset may be slightly different?)

anyway, according to my calculations the new wheel will do teh following:

be 3.35mm closer to the suspension (ie: 3.35mm less inner clearance)

and sit out 9.35mm (ie: 9.35mm closer to the guard)

I went to have a loot the other day, but cant see any way of measuring the inner clearance accurately.

Strut/suspension clearance?

Assuming the original nb8A wheels are +38, I'm pretty sure they are +40 or 42.

But anyways, you calculations are correct.

You have extended the wheel are 9mm.

and closer to the inner strut by 3mm.

the nb8a wheel is +40, you will only be closer to the strut by 1mm, and sticking out 11mm.

Don't worry you won't scrap the suspension, unless you are running like 9"wide +36 or similar.

And if you upgrade to coilovers you will have more clearance.
