Steering Issues

Postby Jason10 » Wed Jul 01, 2009 6:36 pm

Hi
I own a 2006 MX5.
In the past 6 months I have had steering issues. Mazda can't find any fault but I know there is a problem.
Over Steering, Lacking feel
Tendancy to skip about and lack directional stability on broken surfaces
Lurching off line if you hit a bump and strange pulling feeling on lond bends.
I am wondering if any body has has the same problems and if they could shed some light on this.

Steering Issues

You've just described issues with settings for front castor, front toe-in, front/rear camber balance and rear toe-in in one succint little description. A full 4 wheel alignment from a professional suspension shop with a focus on motorsport is indicated, i.e. not Mazda and definitely not a tyre dealer. There's a helluva lot more to it than what's in the standard Mazda alignment specification range.

Post your location and the forum will tell you who in your area can do it properly. Around $80 to $120 will completely transform a car.

This is such great news to me. I really appreciate your reply. The Mazda dealer thinks its all in my head. They can't find any fault.
I am in Armadale, Melbourne Australia.
Is this problem an issue with this model. What would cause this

While I would not normally suggest Pedders, the one in Hawthorn (also known as Vance Motors) Jack Vance really knows his stuff. Explain to them what your issues are and they should take care of you.

My only other personal suggestion is Bob Jane in Morrabbin. Their wheel aligner guy is a wizard.

Thanks J
I will call Pedders tomorrow and let you know how I go.

Not really. Mazda specify a pretty wide range of settings for all the MX5s, broadly covering sludge to go-kart handling. Many early NCs seem to have left the factory with the tepid porridge setting.
