replacing suspension on an '89 NA

Postby franco » Sat Jun 20, 2009 12:51 am

hey guys. the suspension on my car is a set of stock bilsteins and factory springs. Obviously a bit long in the tooth now since the car has done 112k already. I'm having a real hard time deciding what suspension to get.

straight out, the gaz coliovers from mania seem the best value: 1600 installed for full adjustability.

I can get the koni STR.T somethings for 1100 installed but they seem to be pretty much just a lowered replacement for the stock suspension (plus I read somewhere that they arent really that crash hot even as a replacement).

then theres the koni and king spring/shock set for 1400 installed (hardly seems worth it if I can throw in an extra 200 for coilovers).

Then AJ over on the mirc chat room suggested rebuilding my current bilstein shocks and replacing the springs with tein S-Techs. seems like enough of a cost saving to be a valid budget choice over a set of coilovers...

any other suggestions or am I best off getting those coilovers? I dont PLAN on going to the track... but thats probably going to change at a moments notice.

I was considering at getting my Bilstein on my Clubman serviced (to keep it stock and original). But was told that it cost almost as much as buying a new set. :?

Having said that I personally haven't gone out and got a quote on how much to service them.

I might ring our new forum sponsor - Wholesale Suspension - and find out how much it cost to service them.

Wholesale suspension serviced my Koni's in January for just over $100 each. They did a great job, though it took them a while.
