New Springs for SE

I am looking for tyres and an alignment on the SE... And i'm thinking about getting 'slightly' lowered springs.

I have heard that the 'off the shelf' King springs are too high in the rear.. Can anyone provide info on what I need to order to get a level SE and only slightly lowered?

Also, any recommendations on places to get springs & tyres fitted and good alignment, prefer SE suburbs of Melbourne..?

What are you talking about? Ive never heard that off the shelf kings are too high at the back. They certainly lower the car, just only up to 1.5 inch. If your not happy with putting king springs in, which probably wouldnt be the best idea on an se on its own, you can always find a coilover kit, or even teins.

I'm waiting to save up for some FM springs to go with some SE Bilsteins - proabably when I'm in the US next month to save on shipping. They're the only thing that's significantly stiffer than the SE springs, which are already about the same rate as Kings.

The SE Billies are already stiff enough to handle these sorts of rates with minimal fuss.

FM springs ride height is 12.5" front, 13" rear, which is not as low as many, so still gives respectable travel til you hit the bumpstops.

As for fitment, I wouldn't go past Fultech in Burwood (search for contact details)

have a chat to Pashn8 / Dino about what he did on his SE, iirc he went with kings but they were more of a custom job , rather than off the shelf. his car is nice and low, and flat, rather than sticking up at the back. might be lower than you're after, tho.

anyway, have a chat to him, my memory is not the best but i know he sorted his SE out without having to spend mega bucks.

For a wheel alignment try Phil Hughes in Braeside. He charged me $70 which compares quite well to $88 at a Bridgestone tyre centre or $60 at a Bob Jane. He does a lot of work on Ferrari race cars, has a very accurate machine and knows his stuff. 0405 837 443, say Ben with the white mx5 recommended you.

For tyres give Daniel (Cent on the forum) a call. He works at K mart tyre and Auto in Rowville and can get great prices on tyres. With 16' re001's you save around $25 a corner off Bridgestone prices, I saved about $16 a corner in 14'. 9764 1601, ask for Daniel and say your an mx5 cartalk member.
