Rattling brake pads

I know it's the brake pads because even a slight application of the brake pedal and the rattling stops.

I've fitted new anti-rattle clips and springs, applied that CRC orange goop behind the shims, and fitted new (Bendix GCT) pads, and still the brakes rattle incessantly.

What's the solution?

Hey Gazbo,
When you say you fitted new clips and springs do you mean the w springs and the clips for the end of the pads.

If so the only cause I can think of,all being equal is, when you fitted the clips the spring tab has bent down loosing tension, the easiest way to correct this is remove pads again and slightly bend the spring tensioner up a bit and refit pads. After fitting pads you should just be able to move pad up and down by the smallest margin. If the clips are ok again slightly expand the W springs out to increase tension.
I've seen many mechanics have problems fitting these clips as at times they can be a bastard to get everything sliding into place just right.
As for the CRC goop I'm not a bit fan of this stuff as it was really developed to cover up poor caliper designs from the 70s by Bendix, re flexing alloy units.

Hope this helps, as from experence I know how bloody annoying brake rattles can be.

If it's the rear brakes they may need to be adjusted. My adjustors were stripped and required a rebuild, I also removed the thin backing plates (the mazda ones) and used that goop on the back of the pad (mine was blue obviously superior ) no more rattles. The springs suck!!!

Terry, yes, I did buy both new clips and the "w" springs.

I've tried stretching the "w" springs out a little more, but didn't touch the clips, I'll try bending the spring tabs out a little more as you suggest.

Ted, I never considered the rear pads could be the source of the rattling, have to check the adjustment of those.

Changed the brake fluid, greased the calipers, and adjusted the rear brakes correctly.

Rattles mostly gone, just the occasional noise over a big bump.
