Koni yellow question. Are mine F8(&^%#ed?

Postby Spranga » Sat Oct 25, 2008 1:06 pm

The rear end has been bottoming out over dips and bumps for a while now so last weekend I tried to adjust my koni yellows to the firmest setting. Fronts were OK however the rears were very stiff with only a small amount of movement. I lubricated them and ended up getting about 1- 1.5 turns out of them compared with about 2 at the front. It seemed to mostly cure the problem however I checked them again today to see if I could get anymore movement and the right rear seemed to just keep on spinning without much resistance in both directions. I could also smell oil and it looks to be weeping from the top. I am assuming I have overtightened it somehow and it is now leaking? Anyone know how much it is likely to cost to repair and should I do both rears? I was hoping to get a better set up eventually so low cost options would be nice.

Any ideas welcome, as are cheap replacements if you have any lying around :)

Koni can be re-build. Not sure of the cost, but has to be cheaper that buying new ones. I seem to remember from when I owned Koni dampers that they recommened 1 full turn only of the adjuster?

I've been quoted around $100/per shock to get them rebuilt at Wholesale Suspension at Penrith. I was told they are the NSW agent for Koni. It's one of the jobs on my to-do list.

Good to know rebuild are not too much if the new (second hand) ones die.

Any ideas on the best place to get shortened bump stops (fat cat suspension?) or do you reckon I should try and change to NB arrangement?
