Hey guys,
My rotors are horrendously rusted and am looking to replace them with something that provides a bit more "bite" and feedback.
I've searched eBay from the US and have come across the OBX drilled and slotted brake rotors. Has anyone used these before?
rear rotors
front rotors
They're $55 per set, whether it be front or rear..
What are your thoughts? I've tried looking these up on miata.net but no reviews yet..

What pads are you using now?
Really good pads + stock brake rotors will "bite" better than crappy made OBX brake set and "okay" brake pads.
Also I wouldn't trust OBX rotors, especially they are the only thing that will stop your car.
I would never skimp on brakes + tyres, spend as much as you can with known brands and quality, and if you believe $55 is only worth your life, then so be it.

Agree with Philz totally, I wouldn't trust OBX air filters let alone a crucial part like brakes.

Have you tried bendix ultimate? or hawk pads? project mu?
Also what do u mean by horrendously rusted? rusted to the point it's falling apart [unlikely]
Or just some surface rust, which is normal.
What I would do is choose some high quality brake pads, and get some really good quality brake fluid and you should notice a great improvement.

when it rains, the rust goes all over my wheels and the rotors and brakes.. looks quite messy.
haven't got bendix ultimates.. i was going to buy a set of them but i've had these generals sitting around for a while now, so might as well use them and not put 'em to waste.

unless you are doing track work slotted rotors are going to make bugger all difference on the street. If you want the look I would buy rda slotteds. they are australian made and a good rotor. the obx will cost an effin forture to post to aus too - probably at least 100usd

yes rda's are good, and cheap. i agree postage will be a killer on the obx ones. when i looked into getting some rotors from mx5parts uk the postage was something like 3 times the cost of the rotors.

i'm running ultimates all round, awsome braking capability, and i highly recomend them. As for the OBX rotors, i wouldnt skimp out on something so vital like brakes, but considering i use OBX leads and have no problems with them, they may be ok, i'm not saying they're not any good as i've never used them.
dont forget they will whack on a hefty shipping fee for each pair, so it would probably work out $100-150 a pair, still good for cross drilled but for something like brakes, i'd rather go with a well known brand.

I wouldn't worry about rust on your rotors. A simple drive will fix that problem (so long as you actually use your brakes ).
As for the calipers, I'm surprised they rust up? Perhaps it's worth giving them a clean and then painting them? If all you're concerned about is (mostly) the look, that'd fix it right up.

These precision machined track quality rotors. Plain rotors offer the highest structural integrity and thermal capacity. Carbotech rotors are not drilled or slotted.
I recommend against the use of aftermarket drilled or slotted rotors for track days or competition for safety reasons. I've seen too many rotor failures over the last 20 years, always a drilled or slotted aftermarket rotor, never a plain one.

When we went to the DBA tech night many years ago the guy from DBA warned against using cross drilled rotors for any serious track work. He suggested that the rotor has a higher chance of failure due to stress cracking. DBA offer cross drilled rotors simply because the market demands it. He didn't seem to think there was a problem with slotted rotors as long as the slots were no deeper than the minimum recommended rotor thickness. He basically said if you want your car to LOOK like it goes fast get the cross drilled rotors, if you want you car to BE fast then get the slotted ones.
