Watanabe Rims

Postby Schultzy » Sun Feb 25, 2007 5:35 pm

Hey guys i am very interested in the Watanabe rims for my NA. I love the JDM appeal and until joining this forum, have never heard of them before.

I currently have the BBS rims (apparantly quite sort after) that came with the car in 14x6 and they are 3.5kg each (thanks to you guys for this info).

I would really like to fill the guards out on the car and when it gets the coil-overs in, have quite a nice stance too.

Question 1: How much do these Watanabe rims weigh approx. compared to my BBS.

Question 2: What size should i be looking for to get what i want out of them.

Question 3: Where do i find them for sale is Brissy and for how much?

Thanks alot guys for you help

p.s. Was on the boost cruising forum last night just looking around and it really makes me appreciate the people on this one! No 10yo tools and other small minded asses on here! :P

They're pretty light. Mine are 15x6.5 and weigh 4.8kg each.

If you don't mind rolling guards, you can get away with 7in wide and +20 offset or 6.5in wide and +14 offset. If you want to avoid rolling guards then you'd have to back off about 10mm in the offset, so +30 and +25 respectively, but it won't quite fill the guards so drammatically and the spokes won't be as dished of course.

Here's mine with 15x6.5in+14.

They can be ordered new from importers like www.jdmyard.com but they are very expensive in Japan, so would be nudging $600 a wheel by the time they're landed. Your best bet would be to try to locate a second hand set on Yahoo auctions japan and then ask a JDM parts importer to bid for you and ship them. Cost depends on how good a deal you can get but they're pretty sought after so won't be cheap.

Ok thanks for your the reply.

As much as i like them they are going to be too expensive for me at the moment

What other rims for a \"reasonable\" price should i be looking at with the JDM look and light weight?

Cheers

Unfortunately anything JDM also has the associated JDM Tax slapped on top of it...

You won't be able to get any authentic stuff at bargain basement prices (unless you come across a deal where someone doesnt know the value of the JDM gear - a pair of authentic bride seats were sold a few weeks back for $600 a pair - worth about $1.5k each when new!)

Well judging by what the other members of the forum have said, our rims seem very close in price second hand so it would be entirely up to you..... :|

Ideal circumstace for me would be that you were willing to do a trade with me as (to be totally honest) i dont have alot of money at all. (19yo with a bit of debt thanks to my car!) And i have always loved the buddy clubs.

Please have a think about it a get back to me

Cheers

Richard at mx5 plus has a few sets sitting around which he may or may not want to part with, you could try him on saturday.
