thanks for all your responses... I will most probably put the wheels on and get a hub spacer, maybe just for peace of mind and easy wheel fitment if for no other reason.

So has anyone actually had a wheel snap off whilst driving?

start to turn pear shaped however when the wrong springs have been used and the spring totally compresses (binds) Then the larger forces normally taken by the shock body and bump stops are now transmitted through the circlip.


I think we are having a violent agreement here Garry :!:

Binding springs are worse than sitting on the bump stops - instantaneous infinite spring rate :shock: :!: :shock: No way are the circlips and the groove on the shock body going to handle that! No way do I want to be around when it binds - it could be quite spectacular, but I will wait for the Utube video :)

Anybody watch Top Gear on Monday night? It happened to them.

Quite interesting actually, glad it wasn't me though.

That poor car has had the wheels dríven off of it by everybody. Even the rear door paint colour doesn't match (smacked).

Are the plastic/aluminium hubspacer universal for all wheel sizes? or does different wheel size require different hubspacers?

I can tell you what happens when you drive without spacers.. The car shakes like there is no tomorrow. I'm currently driving without spacers because the owner before me didnt put them on and I have only just found out why the car shakes so much.

Can someone tell me where I can get a set or do they come with the rims when you puchase them (new or second hand)?

There are probably about 100 cbl (Centre Bore Locators) sizes I usually have in excess of 60 sizes in stock.
You need to know the inner diametre of the wheel centre hole and the Vehicle hub size.

Most reputable tyre shops will be able to get them for you. If you have an unusual size I have a supplier that can custom make them from aluminium.

car shakes?! WTF?! Thats pretty weird. The sizes will be diffferent for every wheel (well groups of wheels will be the same but you get the picture) as they have different hub diameters....

fantastic, so they are readily available.
Yeh, the missing hubspacer causes the wheel to move around because its not concentric therefore making the entire car shake. The rim i have is also buckled so ill have to get an entire new set.

You may not need to replace the set because of the buckled one, here on the goldcoast we use a company called Dr Wheels who repair and straighten mag wheels. We use the all the time and it is incredible what they can repair. You may find someone similar in your area. Check with a few reputable tyre shops in your area.

bullshit. the hub spacer is only there to help centre the wheel on the hub when you're tightening up the wheel nuts. the hub spacer doesn't carry any load & you can still centre the wheel without the spacers. if your car shakes you've got much bigger problems than missing hub spacers. i'd start with the buckled wheel.

Daz 27. No need to get verbal. Chill out mate. Thats what the wheel shop has told me. But yes I agree with you, I think its more to do with the buckled wheel than spacer.
