If you have aftermarket wheels...

Postby atomic » Sun Aug 27, 2006 9:12 pm

... how nicely do your rims sit on the centre hub?

I have a set of 15's that are slightly too big for the hub and I don't want to drive around on just the 4 bolts.

Has anyone else experienced this and what kinda solution did you come up with? Hub rings?

Thanks

Yup....hub rings. Cost about $20 for a set of 4.

Is there any place you recommend? Or any wheel/tyre shop should be okay?

I think any tyre shop should be able to sell them to you. I noticed that mine were made by Mullins Wheels (ROH, etc) so they should be readily available.

Unless you have weird sized wheels, then you will have to get a set machined up. My watanabes were a bitch i couldnt get any rings to suit the wheels.. Plenty to suit the car but not the wheels.

Really? Mu hub rings fit perfectly on my Watanabes...I vaguely recall (not 100% sure) that the outside dia of the Wats are 60mm (same as Enkei) and the inner is 53mm.

hub centering is only to get the wheel temporarily aligned until you do the nuts up. It's the taper on the nuts that does the real locating and load bearing.

So as long as you do the nuts up progressively and evenly you shouldn't have a problem without rings.

Really? I was under the impression that it wasn't good to be riding on the nuts.

I always thought the bulk of the load was taken by the hub and the nuts were mainly to keep the wheel firmly in place on the hub...

Maybe I'm wrong then...

well i didnt end up finding a set of rings to fit my watanabe's. But i ended up getting my hands on the original watanabe wheel nuts which made the wheels set much more centre. My watanabe wheels have 2 tapers for the nuts to sit in, so the normal nuts i was using werent centering the wheels correctly. But the watanabe nuts solved that problem as they were shaped differently..

Depends on the type of wheel and hub. If it's hubcentric it's supposed to have the weight supported on the hub while if it's lugcentric (and most are) it's supposed to have the weight supported on the lugs.

So in other words - it's fine how it is, don't worry about it... :)

Hehehe, I have Buddy club's, Black Racing and Watanabes atm, recently got rid of Longchamp XR4's and Enkei Racing S

My uncle is the CEO of Mullins but I still wouldn't put CSA's on my cars, awful looking wheels
