15X6\" rims - how wide can you go?

Postby Slugoid » Wed Aug 23, 2006 9:40 pm

For rims that are 6\" wide, how wide can the tyres go before it's too wide?? 185? 195??

Just want to know because I'm thinking about getting some stock Civic Enkei's for track, but I want to be able to fit 195 tyres.

Thanks

Standard NB8A are 15 x 6\" with 195/50 tyres so all should be OK

like richee said...195 should be perfect. You'll also notice most tecnical datasheets of the tyre you are looking at, will come with a recomended min & max rim size for that tyre size.

If your using them for the track what kinda tyres are you wanting to run, as some of the 'motorsports' ones understate their true width.

I'm going to be putting on semi slicks (i.e. A048, RE55, R888 etc) that I can find at a reasonable price. With semi's, would it be better to go 185 or 195??

I've run a 205 and now a 215 Toyo on 7 inch rims and they seem a good fit but I remember a hot lap in Pixola's turbo NB8A with 205 DO-1's on the 15x6 NB8A rims and it seemed a good fit too, and as you can see from the above links there's lots of room for guesswork on rim versus tyre size.

Hi Craig,

My Dunlop D01Js were 215/50R15 on 15x7s..

I'm back on the factory 15x6s with 205/50R15 Advans.. which aren't as grippy but the wheel weight is much lower than before.

Probably a bit less grip but it seems to be more fun :)

Ahhh I thought you had them running on the NB8A wheels. I was impressed at the time with your grip, and considering it's what I've got I'm a happy chappy!
