I fitted a cheap strut brace to the car tonight. It is the type commonly found on eBay for around $100 posted. I was unsure if it would make any real difference, since the MX5 is not a McPherson strut, etc. My thoughts were thatat the price ($50) it wouldn't hurt too much to find out, any additional bracing on the NA6 would be welcome, and the NB8B models have one from the Mazda factory so there may be something in it.
It was installed in such a way as to provide tension between the towers, pulling them together.
There has been a noticeable change in the driving behaviour of the car. The steering is a little heavier, turn in is more immeadiate, and the car feels a little 'tighter'. ON balance I prefer it, and can certainly say that a strut brace is worth considering, even the cheapies from eBay.
I am running the stock 14\" rims, Koni Sport dampers, and stock springs and sways. No bushes have been replaced (but I probably should) and the car is fitted with front and rear underbody braces.
Anybody want to buy an original Loch Stewart intake for a 1.6 MX5?
