I have had a missfire for a while now, changed plugs, changed leads, changed the oxygen sensor and it always ran well for a few weeks after that....but it always went back to random miss fire.
Sometimes it would happen on start, other times it would happen when I was cruising down the freeway...it would come and go as it pleased...
Finally it started and stayed there for a week....and I got sick of puttutututututing everywhere....so I got out and looked on the side of the road. Touched the wiring loom to the #1 injector and it ran nice.....touched it again and it started to miss fire again.
I starred at it, the words 'are you f'ing serious' spilled from my mouth. Looking closed I can see under the black tape is two barrel crimp connectors for the injector....both wires are barrel crimped, corroded as anything inside...so I jammed it in the connector to get it running and so it stays for now.
My questions is why would someone do this? I notice that injector 4 is also this way but 2 and 3 look unmolested...but I will check when I get time to fix it.
Fixing it, do I just strip and solder the cables and then shrink tube them or should I do something different? Short term easy fix or long term permanent repair?

Re: Found my miss-fire reason - injector wiring has crimp connector
This on an ND?! I'd take it back to the dealer and tear a strip off them.
OTOH, I am guessing that that is an error in your profile, and it's not an ND . I use the butt-join soldered connectors, with low temp solder in a shrink wrap tube. Hit it with the heat gun and you have a good sealed joint. Given it is on the engine and subject to a lot of vibration, and extra layer of shrink wrap might help prevent the vibration affecting the soldered joint.
As to why, batch fire converted to sequential? Is it running an aftermarket ECU?

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Re: Found my miss-fire reason - injector wiring has crimp connector
Don't know why it says ND in profile, I have an NA6 1991.
I am assuming a stock ECU, but I guess I should pull up the carpet and have a look eventually.
I know it has wiring mods as I can disconnect the AFM and the fuel pump still runs.....(or forget to plug it back in really).
It is an ex-NSW MX5 club car...old plates were GDJ-073 and were 'custom' plates that cost an extra $100 a year...does any one off hand know the previous history of this car? Red NA soft top, coilovers, NB wheels and seats, stainless intake cross over pipe and cowl induction kit.
Cheers

It's 28 years old and been modded. Anything could have happened to it !
