High revs

Looked at an ND for the first time and when started from cold it was running on high revs with a green thermometer icon on the dash. The owner said that this is normal and revs drop back when the icon goes out. My question is Is this normal?

how high revs are you talking?

for most cars (cant say specifically for the ND) they'll idle a few hundred rpm higher until warmed up.

But if it's starting then revving to 2k it's probably got an issue.

google "mx5 nd owner manual" and start reading. i'm sure you'll find the answer quicker than awaiting a response on a forum.

Wash your mouth out PRR

Read the manual indeed, whoever heard of such a thing ... :| . Next thing you will be telling people about the search function - way to get a ban

Yep it's normal and usually sounds horrible too for the 60 seconds it takes to warm up.
My CX5 Diesel does the same thing.

I was just saying my ND also does the high rev thing on warm up, as does my CX5 (and almost all modern cars).
And I'll take my Diesel CX5 for towing my track MX-5 between 2-5 hours down the highway once a month any day over a petrol version thanks :|
