Check your engine ground wires

Something weird happening to your MX5? Intermittent miss fire? Hunting idle? Just doesn't seem to run smoothly?

Check your engine ground wires.

It might just be loose or dirty or damaged. I just replaced the earth strap at the rear of the engine, cleaned the contacts on the connector above the alternator and added an extra earth strap between the inlet manifold and the chassis.

My idle is now sooooo much better. Settles much faster. No more hunting up and down.

Might seem obvious, but its so easy to check first. If it helps someone I'm happy.

Thanks, theo, for sharing your experience. I've read on this forum, and elsewhere, about the importance of having clean grounds on our cars. I don't have any serious issues with mine, AFAIK, but it certainly won't hurt to take a look.

Got around to cleaning my grounds this morning. I really wasn't expecting any difference, but you were right - the engine is definitely running smoother than before :D

Thanks, and be happy!
