..... because where the bottom ball of the shifter goes into the socket in the turret, that socket has come adrift and is just flopping about.
The shifter is fine. The 'box had all the gears until the corner where the socket went floppy. All the synchros had been fine up and down, etc etc. No, the clutch hadn't failed. Nor had the prop shaft fallen off, etc etc.
Can anyone offer advice on how complicated a fix might be?

Re: SE 6 speed not selecting ANY gears ......
This is on a 5 speed but I think the 6 speed is identical. The socket is attached to the shift rod via a dowel pin. The dowel must have sheared. You need to pull the box, remove the side cover and the reverse spring on the other side and knock the pin out and replace.
You need to be very carefull to align the exit of the dowel pin with the hole in the other side. You can get it stuck.
I can take photos of one if you need.

Oh you might be able to do it with the ppf removed but it will be very tight. I think the chances of getting the dowel jammed would be too high.

Hey Dave, if it may help, my mechanic Daz has pulled apart and re assembled the box, clutch etc in the problem child several times- I put your question to him via text message to see if there is any info I can offer that may help...... text exchange as follows;
Daz, This bush? In your car?
Me, No, another guy in Victoria who runs his mostly on track- (big power) costly to fix?
Daz, If it is a track car I would go for the brass replacement one, makes a little noise but so much more direct... Does it lock out of gear when the motor is running?
Me, Not sure with the lockout but i can ask
Daz, If it is lockout the clutch is dragging (not fully releasing)
Me, I'll let him know - he doesn't seen to think anything is wrong with the clutch though
Daz, A test for him, put it in first gear, foot on the clutch and then start the car... if it doesn't move it is inside the gearbox, if it does it is the clutch dragging

I think Dave is referring to the bucket in which that plastic bush sits?

Just tried to get Daz back on the blower for thoughts on the bucket/bush in that case..... should get a response soon, I know he did a fair bit with mine when my shifter was fritzing out a while back......

Re: SE 6 speed not selecting ANY gears ......
Is this related to the 6 speed box that lost 5th / R?
If the shift fork selector breaks off the gear selector shaft then the shift ball in the gearbox can escape the gated area between the four selector shafts that it is held in. This would make it feel like you've lost all gears.
If you look down into the turret and see if the shift rod is rotating when you move the socket. If it is then the issue is at the other end of the shift rod.

I think as Dave bought that gb recently, it's to replace this one.

Re: SE 6 speed not selecting ANY gears ......
Yes, this is a separate question to the 6 speed box with no 5th or reverse question, hence my starting 2 separate topics.
I feel sure the SE box has all its gears and it is just failing to select them as mentioned above.
Thanks for the posts with suggested fixes.
