Muffler delete

Hi Members I own a NBSP and was wanting some advice on removingnmuffler and putting on a muffler delete. From research all I would be gaining is a note on my exhaust which I want and loosing some body weight, well then it is for performance :lol:

Is there any pros and cons and love to hear from members that have actually done this modification.

Well over here in England, you would first attract unwanted attention from the plod (police). Also if it was very loud you'd fail the MOT.

I removed the muffler on my old NA6 quite a few years ago, and had a straight through cat back.

It was undrivable. The noise was to much.

Mind, it did sound like a V8 on start up

It's the drone that gets you especially with a hard top on. Like sitting in a sub woofer

Turbo cars are totally different,take a rear muffler off a naturally aspirated car and you have noise and perhaps drone.I know of turbo cars running with two hotdogs and no muffler that are still very quiet so if you have an SP turbo most of the above is irrelevant.

What I might do is disconnect muffler and see how it sounds for a while. Then if it is too much put it back on. If I like it will put a delete on.

It may be worth replacing the rear muffler with a 15 or18 inch hotdog.A friend has two 15 inch ones on his turbo 1.6 and it is still fairly quiet but sounds much better than stock.

I had no muffler for the few days between when I sold my RSR exhaust and dug my factory one out of the shed.

Volume wise it was loud, idle at 100db by my meter, didn't bother measuring at revs.

Note wise it wasn't great, it was fairly agricultural.
(The rsr was just as loud, but less tractor sounding)

In saying that, mine is a non turbo, so already yours won't be as loud (still wouldn't be legal I imagine though)
Mine also has a high flow cat (50cel or something from memory) and they tend to add to the farm equipment gruffness.

So yeah, it shouldn't be too bad, but consider in future maybe investing in a resonator or hotdog to drop the volume a couple of notches, and to smooth out the potentially rough note.

I have a bypass on my turbod 5. Bypasses the rear muffler via an added power window switch. Just makes the car louder.

Do you mean Bruce you can bypass or use muffler via a switch. So you can have a note or just havebit quiet. I know there are some mufflers you can have two settings.
