Penrite Synthetic Gearbox Oil

Need to get my gearbox oil changed. Dealer advised that they do not stock synthetic so I will need to provide it myself! Suits me as it saves paying dealer's inflated price for lubes.
My NC1 handbook calls for 75W-90 but the Penrite Pro Gear is 75W-85. Has anyone had good, bad, indifferent experience with this oil or should I upgrade to a Mobil or Castrol synthetic which I think is 75W-90?

Penrite do make a ProGear 75-90W in GL5. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the quality of Penrite oils. There are however all sorts of problems with the prices for Mobil/Castrol/Shell oils.

I rate the Penrite Pro Gear oil equivalent or better than Amsoil MTG so yes it's good. From my use (track work) I recommend using it over anything else. I think I'm using the 75-85W.

Me too... and I've tried most oils out there.
Penrite 10-tenths is genuinely fabulous stuff in a 6 speed.

I've switched to Penrite in all my cars after trying it in my NB8A. Top product.

In the NB8A they recommend Semi-Synthetic 75W-90 for the transmission and it eliminated the 'snick' 'snick' after the change from the ? oil used in the previous service.

Likewise with me!
71coast 79 - check your manual for GL spec, as some g/boxes take GL4 or GL5, whereas some are GL4 only.
zossy1 - I've only seen 10 tenths in their engine oil range ?

As far as I know the NC is a GL-4 only gearbox.
Best option (IMHO) is Redline MT90.

Hey guys I know it’s an old thread I’m bring to the surface again but it’s just the topic I’m after.
I refer to NB8A, year 2000, five speed
I was about to fill the shifter turret. Thought I double check the quantitie required, around 90ml. With that sorted I checked my oil I grabbed for this track car.
Penrite Full Synthetic 75-90, in small print reads GL-5.
The Penrite app recommended semi synthetic GL-5.
I’m not so worried about the semi or full syn. My concern is the GL-5, are any of you guys using this oil with GL-5 rating? After some on line searches I got mixed results about GL-5 vs GL-4

The factory workshop manuals I have say:
5 speed - GL4 or GL5
6 speed - GL4

Hey RS, just confirming your workshop manual is for the NB8A year 2000?

Nulon do a GL4 synthetic. I'm using that in the NC and it's fine.
