Hi i was wondering who here in Adelaide i might want to take my MX5(s) to to remove a turbo 1.8L engine and drivetrain from one of my MX5s and transfer into another MX5 i have and Visa versa. Take the 1.6L engine and drivetrain from that MX5 and put it in the one which had/has the 1.8 turbo.

Am i crazy??

Thoughts?

Randall

Hard to say. It's all relative. Everyone on this forum is at least slightly crazy.

Wouldn't it be easier to take the goodies you want off the 1.6 and install them in the 1,8turbo and vice versa, rather than swapping entire drivetrains?
Then theres the whole electrics and ECU side of the swap too :?

Does this mean we get to keep one of them if we do the swap?

:D

I will leave it to a local to recommend a workshop. Consider estimating / getting a quote. You have 4 changes maybe 24 hours by say $70 or more an hour say $1700. Then if you do the change legally you have some hoops to jump thru ie neither will be what the reg say they are. Someone might do it just based on time and the cost can blow out. You can decide if its crazy.

Hey Randy,

Probably any of the old well known car performance workshops. Jaustech, Graham West, BoostWorx etc. When I had an import NB6 engine put into my NA6 the transplant was done by Southern Hi-tec Dyno Tune, but apparently they aren't around anymore.

I, for one, resent the suggest that I may be only slightly crazy.
