Engine fires then dies

Hey I have a 1990 1.6 and was driving down the highway and it backfired a couple of times and lost power costed to a servo. Now it will start up and run but it will splutter and die after about 2-3 seconds. Any throttle input doesn't help. I have checked spark, timing and made sure it's getting fuel to the rail any help would be appreciated
Cheers

26 years old so could be any mixture of intermittent or continuous lack of correct amount of fuel, correctly timed and strong enough spark, even air.
There have been many similar posts recently. Solutions seems to have included cam angle sensors, EFI relays, spark plugs and leads, fuel pumps, etc etc.

Take it to a mechanic is probably the easiest.

Manual or auto? Standard or modified? OEM ECU, piggyback ECU or aftermarket standalone ECU? What's been done to it most recently?
Looked like you were going to turbo an auto Eunos Roadster about this time last year:

Might be worth testing fuel pump/filter but seriously could be a number of things, especially since it's modded.
What causes backfiring, too rich, not enough spark, dodgy timing, slipped timing belt just to name a few?

I guess contributors are always interested in seeing the outcomes of all these similar posts, but we don;t often see what the solution was.

Hey thanks for the replies.
Sorted the problem ended up being fuel pressure had a split in a hose.
Fixed hose problem sorted.
Cheers

Thanks for letting us know.
Where abouts was the split?

It was the little hose on the fuel pump itself

Inside the fuel tank?

Dave, that comment doesn't make a lot of sense. How can you be leaking fuel inside your fuel tank?
Or did I totally misinterprete what you were saying?

Where was the little hose that was leaking?
Was there no smell or visible petrol?

He said it just off the fuel pump. So out side tank. Was a small split which if you think about it, would drop fuel pressure, hence why the motor would cut out with any throttle ;)
