I'm looking at fitting a Cusco clutch LSD (that I had intended to put in an NB8A) into an SE and gather I'll need to get some NB8B ABS axles with that have the diff inputs with smaller diameter and 26 spline.

Just wanted to confirm that regular NB8B axles should work OK here and there's no other differences.

Not aware of SE axles being any different spline wise, however NB8B axles are exactly the same as NB8A axles except for the ABS ring pressed onto the end. (which you can swap over easily if needed)

I've got NB8B axles in my NB8A atm....

I seem to recall the guy who built my diff saying that the SE had a different spline count, and I think slightly thicker axles.

I may be remembering incorrectly since it was a few years ago, but i'm near certain that the SE axles had at least one of those differences, if not both.

There are actually three differences with the SE axles;
- thicker
- more splines
- different uni-joint type

The SE was also the last MX5 to get a true Torsen diff.

I suppose I'm wanting to confirm that there aren't any differences at the hub end, ie the NB8B shaft will fit the SE wheel hub.

Also, when does the smaller CV joint of the standard shaft start to become a problem from a power/torque perspective?

have a look at the Mfactory diffs. They are basically the s2000 center and will fit into your diff housing and use the SE larger splines. Around $1200 I think and look really good.

Already have a Cusco LSD diff centre, just need the shafts.

I should read the full first line rather than the first 8 or so words! haha..

My understanding is you can just get some standard shafts and diff seals and it will bolt up to your existing hubs. I was looking to go the other way to fit in the Mfactory diff which just needed the larger shafts and diff seals.
