*Engine Swap* 2004 SE BP-4W into 2001 NB8B

Postby AlexHaley1994 » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:12 pm

Hi,

I recently purchased a turbocharged BP-4W which was removed from a written-off 2004 SE.
I plan on removing the current BP engine in my NB8B and swapping it with the BP-4W.
I have the wiring loom, ECU, exhaust, intercooler, manifold, and other associated parts from the SE.
I'll be replacing the engine mounts during the swap. My NB8B has the 6-speed box, so no worries about it not handling the power.

I'll be conducting the swap over Christmas.

Is there anything I should be aware of before I begin? Has anyone done this swap or one similar before?

"Is there anything I should be aware of" - what you might want to check is legality and insurance.

timk did exactly this swap on the car he just sold.
Do a search for his build thread to see what's needed.

Being new and annoying you'll need the key / immobilizer I'd imagine.

Why swap motors? The NB8B accepts the SE turbo and manifold. Has more compression, and seems to make more power than the SE motor. Unless your motor is shagged, I would just swap manifolds. Buy an MS3, and an EBay inter cooler. Look at my thread SE replica.

It's easier to get a RWC on a modded car with a turbocharger if the original engine came fitted with a turbo - that's one reason to do this.

Aside from a $100 mod plate the rwc is actually easier with the standard engine and la3 code clearly visible. Things to consider are oil drain on an se is standard etc.

Except in this case both the engine numbers are related, so that issue wont arise.
