NB8B Headers/Extractors advice or recommendations

Hi there,

I am looking to upgrade my exhaust system and have been quoted $470 for a set of hurricane headers (inc install) on my NB8B. Apparently these will increase torque/HP and the sound a little. The question is - is it worth it? Has anyone got these headers on an NB or any other headers/extractors that they would recommend? I'm located in Brisbane. Thanks.

Personally stay with stock and get a decent exhaust or look for a set of racing beat. Hurricane are pretty blah really.

Otherwise OBX make a RB copy, its typically copy quality but *shrug*

Appreciate the advice! What do you mean by blah? Racing beat look to be pretty expensive, any reasons why they are so much better?

Maxim works headers.

Also worth noting that early NBs in the states came with a cast manifold, that's why some US "NB" headers can claim a huge improvement over stock.

I think they had a proper set of pipes by the time the NB update was released.

Agree. First picture are JDM OEM NB8B pipes verses hurricane in blue.

These later JDM standard pipes are pretty good and last longer (less prone to cracking).
The ADM pipes are same except have EGR fitting added.

This is what Racing Beat headers could look like in your engine bay

What is your budget and more importantly your expectations? I have a full Racing Beat system on my car and it is rather quite in nature (everybody was surprised) and not to droney when cruising at 110 kmh. However when drĂven hard and at full RPM its sounds fantastic from inside the car even with a helmet on.

Hi.
Unfortunately the very good Japanese extractors in the main are not manufactured now. The american extractors are somewhat compromised by having the steering shaft on the left and therefore they have less space to work with for optimal design. For normal road work with a small increase in power save your money for other things and buy locally.

Hi everyone thanks for the inputs! Essentially I'm chasing some extra torque/kw and a good set of extractors that'll cope with some track work, not heavy racing just some light track work. At the moment I have a CAI system and a custom catback system. Budget is around $500. RB headers just look so damn nice compared to the blue though.

Dammm if you can find a bit more for your budget there are these http://www.cesracing.com.au/products_5.htm/, made in Queensland and nothing but good things said about them.

I have had CES make a custom cat back exhaust for one of my cars (not the MX5) and it was fantastic, the quality of the work was superb and the promise of performance was delivered upon.

CES make A LOT of these and are matched to a Gary Stewart motor so they are a well known/developed/proven part, at least the race version. Give them a ring and talk to them. When I replace my Racing Beat ones I will be talking to CES about a custom set to match the engine characteristics.

However it is not my money...

What do you reckon magpie?

Don't bother.

Metal coloured paints always end up looking crap, and stain easily etc.
If you dont like the blue i'd instead recommend just going for a high temp satin black (or gloss, or matte, whatever your preference is)
