Temp Sensor Problem

Postby Dundy2456 » Thu Oct 08, 2015 4:04 pm

Hi,

Recently replaced my thermostat and two temp sensors (the one that sits above the thermostat and the one near the CAS, sorry don't know technical names). Did coolant at the same time. Did a visual check on everything I could and it all seemed in order.

My issue is that when the car reaches operating temp on a hot day (happened over the weekend most recently, as well as a few times last summer) or when sitting in traffic for ages, the water temp rises, but the fans do not engage.

My remedy is to turn on the air con so the air con fan engages and helps draw air through the radiator.

I've got two fans at the front.

Any help is appreciated. I'm not sure if its an electrical fault, or a dodgy sensor, or anything else. I've visually observed both fans working so I am confident that the fan itself is fine.

Cheers

Could still be the thermo fan.
I had one that worked/didn't work intermittently.
Ended up replacing the fan motor. Previous owner also earthed the fan so that it is always on with ignition.
Could also be the sensor on top of thermostat, so if you still have your old one, Chuck it in and see if she works again.

Just my 2c, suspect other more knowledgeable peeps will have s better response.

Cheers!

For info, NA6 B6 has three temp sensors - two at rear of head (for ECU & gauge) & one on top of thermo housing (for fan/s).
