NB8A cam angle sensor options

looks like my cam angle sensor has gone again.. they really dont like the heat it would seem. or being fiddled with.

had one fail years ago, changed it out and the problem returned next track day, cable tied the plug and went strong for another few years.. then changed to a lower K's motor while i rebuilt the original motor and problem happened again on the track during the WP 300 and was again fixed with a cable tie (got lucky twice i recon)
now with the rebuilt motor in the problem has returned and cable ties are not helping! have three originals and they are all rubbish :P

has anyone found a better replacement?

is one OEM option better than another?
looking on google the cheaper Chinese made ones might not be all that crash hot, as far as QM goes. some lasting ages some lasting days..

has anyone retro fitted anything?
dose anyone have the full specs of the sensor? i have a Haul effect sensor or two i can source through work that are used on industrial equipment but cant get enough info on the standard sensor.. (my multi meter is finnito :P )

know this thread has come and gone several times but none seem to discuss options for aftermarket or compare success with different manufactures.

No technical help here from me but I just bought Genuine Mazda from mx5parts.co.uk for AUD143.00 delivered.....

Part hasn't arrived as yet and my car very intermittently has the over 3500rpm issue which I'm assuming will get worse over time....

Would it help to wrap it in something that will insulate it....?

have never had a crank angle sensor fail soo... made my spare crank angle sensor fit in the cam angle sensor position.
seems to work.

had to play with the angle/orientation of the crank sensor, if you rotate it counter clock wise it will eventually stall, i did check the timing with a timing light and at idle it seem pretty solid. i think the way the sensor works it needs to have the target (cam gear pin) pass the sensor in a particular way.

ordered a cheap spare cam sensor from mania incase it fails and kept the original plug, so can always wire it back to how it was.

one thing i did notice when cutting up the cam sensor and comparing it to the crank sensor the wires are alot thicker gauge and a different metal.. also the way the back of the crank sensor is resin looks alot more solid...

so the next question is.
Whose had a crank angle sensor fail and ONLY replaced the crank angle sensor to get things back to normal?

Our 92 and a mate's 94 have both had CAS failures, at similar mileage, even though the internals are different. We got reco internal units from Petroject, no problems for years now.
