Anyone who knows me will know the above reference to hair is misleading.
Anyway, when working on the gearshift, maybe changing bushes, or installing a short shifter, put some rags or old shirts around the turret to stop small objects falling into the black hole below.
Of course, this may only be of value for those as clumsy as I am, but I hope it saves someone some angst.
