Bottom radiator hose housing question

Postby Chicane8 » Sun Jan 25, 2015 11:25 am

Hi guys, my first post on the site...;)
Have finally found a pesky coolant leak on my 96. It's coming from the metal pipe that supply's one heater hose from the bottom radiator hose housing on the block. Have pulled the P/S pump and can now access the top bolt of this housing. The bottom bolt I can get a 12 mm spanner on using " feel" method as you can't see.
Question is whether this bottom bolt will come off/ go back in without taking the aircon bracket off which is directly below this bolt.
Has anybody done one of these....?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Ok now I feel stupid, while fiddling with the metal tube it fell out in my hand. Not a press fit as I thought it has an o ring on it! Doh. So didn't need to remove housing! Ouch.
So now my question is do I just replace this o ring to fix the leak?
Thanks guys!

Take off and clean up the steel pipe well first and also scrape out and scour any scale inside the aluminium pipe that it pushes into. If it's not really bad then you can get away with just a 50c o-ring. It's worth trying that before you start thinking about replacing the pipe or the water pump extension. I've seen some horribly corroded assemblies seal up just fine.
