NB8A 1998 (Manual, non vvti) Possible ECU problems.

Postby MXtea » Sat Dec 20, 2014 11:28 pm

Hi Guys,

I've done a bit of a search and can't seem to find an answer. I bridged the wrong terminals in the diagnosis box while trying to reset the base idle. Not sure which ones I bridged but as I did it the engine slowly died. It now won't start at all, have checked all fuses and relays I can find and have replaced all the ones in the engine fuse box. Its sparking and the exhaust smells like fuel when cranked.

Sometimes it splutters when cranking but doesn't actually start. I'm thinking now that I may have fried the ECU?

I appreciate anyones time in helping me resolve this issue. If it is the ECU are they interchangeable or will a replacement need re-programming?

Thanks in advance.

I've also disconnected the battery and tried to find ECU fault codes, when the correct terminals are bridged and the fault code reader attached all I get is the initial 4 second light.

Easiest option may be to try a known-good ECU in your car.
Where are you?
